February 15, 2012 | Author: | Posted in Home Improvement

so you may would like to know how you can plaster a wall, possibly you’d like to have a go yourself? well for people who are brave sufficient once you begin plastering a wall you’ll need to make sure your peperation it completed properly.
Also you’ll need to know what sort of background you’re plastering on wheather it is plasterboard, painted wall, or artex what you will understand it that what i’m explaining for the walls applys to ceilings too.

Plasterboard background

This is the easyiest backgound to prepare as all you’ll need to do is make certain that the screw’s are properly screwed in so the board has no movement.
Then the other factor you’ll need to do is ensure you scrim all the joints, what is scrim? its a self adeshive tape which sticks over the joints you may obtain this from any building merchant.
and that’s it your ready to go.

Painted walls

I would just like to mention that when you have wallpaper on your walls then it all has to come off and I mean all of it even the tiny bits left immediately after you have taken it off.
so back to your painted walls or walls that have all the wallpaper off you need to have some P.V.A glue to can buy this from and creating merchants like wickes or B&Q to get the idea,
So once you’ve got your P.V.A glue you’ll need to pour some of it into a bucket, I use them small black buckets you find in wickes, pour a quarter into the bucket and add some water to thin it down.
Mix the water in well and now use a roller and give your wall a coat of P.V.A make sure you cover every bit of the wall, as soon as you’ve finished go back to the begining and see if the wall is bone dry if it is then I would put one more coat on it, if it still quite wet then one coat will do wait intill the wall is dry and you are ready to start plastering your wall.

Artex walls

My favorute (NOT). Right first off you’ll need to use a scrapper and scrap all of the high pionts off so you can get it as flat as you could, do not use a wallpaper scraper you use to take wallpaper off this will not do it you’ll need a big badboy with about a 6 ince width razor blade you possibly can get these in wickes or your local D.I.Y place.
Wear a Mask when doing this after you’ve finished P.V.A your walls like I mentioned above.
And that’s about it, so now you know the best way to prepare a wall for plastering.
